MARUKAN VINEGAR WINS AGC AWARD

Marukan Vinegar received a 1st place award in the Design/Build category from the Associated General Contractors of Georgia (AGC) for the great construction work performed in Georgia.  Marukan also received the certificate of safety excellence for creating a safe work environment for all personnel on the job site. Our project was recognized at the AGC Georgia Annual Convention held in Destin, FL in June 2018. Marukan Vinegar is a 77,759 square feet plant located on 16.23 acres in the Lakes of Green Valley Park District in Griffin Georgia.  KBD Group was privileged to be a part of this successful project and looks forward to a continued relationship with Marukan.

KBD GROUP EXCEEDING CLIENT’S EXPECTATIONS

KBD Group provided Marukan USA, Inc. with Design-Build services delivered by their established construction and design teams. Our staff actively pursued product quality, at all times, to protect the project and client’s interest. During the initial design phase, the design team visited the existing facility in California to survey their plant to meet the Owner’s high expectations and discover improvements for their new facility in Georgia. The design improved the usability and functionality of the Japanese plant in order to suit the Owner’s operations in the U.S.  For example, simplifying the exterior with minimal design choices, as well as improving the efficiency and organization of the interior function and flow line. BIM modeling played an important role in this project and was used by the construction team and subcontractors to ensure everyone was clear on project details. BIM also successfully communicated the building design and shape of the complicated pit, other building components, and the required construction process.  BIM was essential for the construction team and the process equipment suppliers.  As a food manufacturing facility, the design team had to pay special attention to requirements to ensure they were within compliance. This facility comes with interior and exterior tilt wall concrete panels, Lite-Speed roll-up overhead doors, LED lighting, and process piping. Marukan is a Japanese owned company that values its heritage. We showcased this at the main entrance of the plant through a Japanese style finish. The Japanese influence continued in the finishes on the wall made of pre-fabricated wood slats; which is a very popular finish in Japan. These wood slats are typically used as a ceiling application so using them on the walls required custom work to be done especially on the rounded corner of the room.

WHAT IS THE AGC BUILD GEORGIA AWARDS PROGRAM?

AGC Georgia started the Build Georgia Awards Program in 1989 as an opportunity to recognize general contractor members and their construction teams for outstanding performance on some of Georgia’s most noteworthy construction projects. Several years later, the program began recognizing specialty contractors for their projects. Today, the awards program is one of the many valued services AGC Georgia provides to its member firms where construction excellence is celebrated among peers, with owners and buyers of construction services, design team professionals and project team members
